Matthew Chapter 19

"27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?” 28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.?

I'm always amazed at the disciples, how they are able to leave behind everything and everyone in their lives and just follow a stranger. If you really think about it, it is quite crazy. If someone just told us to follow him, we'd probably not trust this person and think he's crazy. However, God opened their hearts and they are able to know that Jesus is the Son of God. And they will be richly rewarded for what they have left behind, including their families and their habitation.

Today it seems a lot harder for us to leave behind everything we have. Many times we forget all that we have is given by God, and we get distracted by all His blessings and prioritize the blessings we received above God. If God blessed us with the oppotunity to become educated, we may have lost our priority at times and placed our schoolwork over God. Instead of remembering who gave us the opportunity to become educated and to become successful in life, we forget and give time to our blessing instead of to God. Same thing with friends and family. We may spend time at a party with our family and friends who God blessed us with when the time should be given to God. Or we choose to further our career and spend a lot of time on accomplishing that, and forget who gave us the opportunity to work in the first place. It is all very easy to do if we loose sight of where all these blessings come from in the first place. It is definitely a learning process.

For many people, it seems difficult to have time to read Bible and pray everyday. Perhaps even reading once a week is considered good enough. Believe me, everyone goes through this, especially when you are still in school and exams seem like the most important task. However, if you ask anyone if they can go without drinking anything, eating, or going to the restroom for a day, people would think you are crazy. Why the discrepancy? Why do we have time to drink, eat, and go to the restroom, but do not have time to read Bible and pray? Perhaps it's because we live by sight and not by faith; because if there is a will, there is a way. Our physical bodies tell us it's time to drink, eat, and expell waste to sustain our health and strength. What about our spiritual bodies? Isn't it also telling us to drink, eat, expell to sustain our health and strength? Let's keep up the good work of making our spiritual food and drink bare necessities of life :)
