"16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it."
The disciples of Jesus are indeed blessed. They are able to see Jesus and hear him speak of the kingdom of heaven. Many prophets and righteous men in the Old Testament never even had a chance to do that. They only hear prophesies of what is to come, but never had the chance to see the prophesy being fulfilled. Yet, they were faithful and it was credited to them for righteousness. How blessed the disciples are to be able to experience those prophesies in person, and to hear the gospel of Salvation directly from Jesus Christ.
Today, we are also blessed, because we know what is to come through the prophesies and through the experience of the disciples had with Jesus. We know the prophesies have been fulfilled through the guidance of God's own spirit. We know the way to Salvation through God's mercy and love. We have experienced God himself through receiving the Holy Spirit and know that we have a greater hope. We are blessed that God has opened our ears so that we may see and hear things of the spirit.
