Matthew Chapter 8

"7 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"

The 'men' mentioned here are the disciples of Jesus (vs. 23). It is apparent from their reaction that they did not have a full grasp of who Jesus at this time. This is true even after they have seen so many miracles performed before this incident. It shows us how little faith human beings can have. That even after seeing, we tend to forget the status of our Lord. After being told who their Lord is, they still doubt and fear. In the same way, we are in every way the same as those disciples. Having received the Holy Spirit, we may still question and doubt.

On the other hand, we can see from Jesus' reaction that He seem to have expected that. He just got up and solved he problem. He reminded them of who He is and gave them a great lesson with one little phrase, "“Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” (vs. 26). No rebuke, just a gentle reminder like a Father. With the phrase he also let them know that they need not fear, because he is there to protect them. He is ever so gentle and meek, no complaints of how they could've doubted after seeing so much of His work. With a simple question, He delivered the greatest message; that He is there for us, only trust Him.

Matthäus 8,26:

"Da sagte er zu ihnen: Ihr Kleingläubigen, warum seid ihr so furchtsam? Und stand auf und bedrohte den Wind und das Meer. Da wurde es ganz still."

This verse recalls us on the one hand how powerful Jesus is. He is God´s son. He can do impossible things like this example. On the ohter hand we needn´t lose our faith. God will protect aus, so we haven´t to be scarry. God is always with us.

Matthew 10, 8:
Der hauptmann antwortete und sprach: Herr, ich bins es nicht wert, dass du unter mein Dach gehst, sondern sprich nur ein Wort , so wird mein Knecht gesund.

My comment:
We should follow the captain`s example. He trust Jesus although he is a great authority he says that himself is worthless. Jesus doesn´t like showoffs. As this example shows that we must trust Jesus with our whole heart and don`t act up.
