1. Tim 2

„11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. “

So a woman should rather listen than teach. There is also a passage in 1.Kor 14.34 saying that women should remain silent in the congregations of the saints as in the churches. Does this submissive attitude of a woman also apply to us in a world where woman claim for equality? Is it something old fashioned or something that only applies to those women who are very noisy and love to have meaningless talk in that particular time and addressed to those in this certain church? Or is it only the opinion of Paul a man who never got married and is not female? “

One explanation is based on the historical circumstances at that time. The reason is that the women just heard from Jesus´ teachings about the great love of God. Therefore they become over confident and as they had to be quite in public they start to be pretty outspoken. So just to prohibit them to cause lot of damages he set some rules.

But as it is recorded in the bible which is instructed by God himself and is written by the apostle Paul who is “telling the truth” and does “not lying” it is in some way related to us. Maybe not only the women but everyone has to figure out in what position is he and what attitude and behavior are appropriated. And not everything what is done in the same way is the same thing. It is just like the stones which have their place. Different kinds of stones are fulfilling different kind of work. So it is not healthy if it is forcefully tried to do something which is not assigned to you. Maybe even if you feel suited for that job.

i agree with you, and i believe what you try to express is the same as what i have in mind. however, i want to make something more clear, because i fear some people may take this statement wrongly: "it is not healthy if it is forcefully tried to do something which is not assigned to you". this statement might give people excuses not to do anything and simply say, "it's not my assignment, therefore, i'm not going to take part". what will happen then is people will shy away from doing anything, and make that as their excuse to be lazy or to hide from God's work.

sometimes, we may be forced to do something in the beginning, perhaps because there is no one, and we have to do it. or perhaps it's good for training ourselves up for God's work. for example, translating. even if you've never translated before, and you are not assigned. but if you are the only person there who knows both languages, then it will naturally be 'forced' upon you to take up that responsibility. even if you are not the only one there that can translate, there is a first time for everything. we can't simply say, it's not assigned, therefore, i'm not going to do it ever. if we never start, how will we ever improve?

i think we should try everything first in doing work for God before saying we can't. because how do we know if we don't try? because in doing work for God, there is always someone who is needed in every task. if we rely on one person for one task all the time, what if one day the person assigned is gone? who will take up the responsibility then? we can't say then, that i'm not assigned, because no one is assigned. and it is not possible that the work just gets undone. so someone will need to step up. and it's better to have someone previously trained and ready, than to be taken by surprise without guidance in how to perform the task and having to learn it then.

in this passage, it is because the women went over board and caused tensions inside their family. that's why Paul wrote them concerning this. because they have broken what God instructed them concerning the husband being the head in a family. in doing work for God, as long as we do not break God's instructions as the women did here, it is good to do any type of work.

Like in Isaiah's example, when God says, "Who will go for us" to answer "Here I am, send me." This should be our answer. Because God did not assign Isaiah, but Isaiah volunteered. And we know he was one of the major prophets of the OT time.

thanx for the further explanation of the other extreme. On one hand are the ones who take more than it is right/good and on the other hand there are others who take less then they it is right/good. As it is often there is the perfect way in the middle. And our aim is to "perfektionieren" ourselves as God is perfect and grow in faith. As long as we are able and willing to be available (^^... jaja nice lesson)for the opinion of others and even more important the words of the bible, the opinion of God himself.

dear sis, each and individual of us is a living stone and we are allocated to our own position to do work accordingly, we cannot move about and across..if the stone that totoro mentioned here is refering to living stone, indeed it is right that living stone have its own place. The living stone has different gifts in different aspects and living stones are not to move/run about (Ephesians 4:12,16; 2:20-22 -chinese version has a more clear understanding). But if someone desires certain work in church like interpreting and/or preaching work, we can pray to God for such gifts.
